3,000th Morning Prayer Customer!

This morning (4am actually) marks exactly 2 weeks since we launched the Morning Prayer video, and I am stoked to say we’ve had over 3,000 views since then – that’s 0.00005% of the total world’s population! This may not be a lot for your average run-of-the-mill Seeker Lover Keeper-esque supergroup, but in my world it’s pretty amazing…thanks everyone for taking a look and passing it on!

Cowper Debut Album Teaser Track Available For Download!

It’s been a busy, good weekend; so I thought I’d share some of the goodwill by putting up a download for everyone. Whilst work is continuing between myself and the amazing Matt Redlich (Hungry Kids of Hungary, Timothy Carroll) I thought that given all the dramas that have resulted in the delay of the album release, it would be a nice idea to give everyone a clue as to how it’s going. So please, feel free to download it and send it to EVERYONE!

I think my current mood is best summarised by pasting in an excerpt of a conversation i just had with a friend of mine:

Awesome Friend Who Shall Remain Nameless: Hi

Rowley: hi!

AFWSRN: how’s your tuesday?

R: pretty good.
amazing in fact.

AFWSRN: oh yeah?

R: i decided that 2011 can go f#%k itself. i’m not standing around for it.

AFWSRN: lol

R: i walked right up to it yesterday and kicked it in the shins.

AFWSRN: sounds like a bad breakup
clearly it deserved it

R: i bought a new bass guitar. and then went and filmed another music video demo. and then today my piano arrived.
boo yah.

AFWSRN: letterbox woes?

R: Letterbox? nah, that’s awesome too. you should SEE the plans.

See? Pretty darn self explanatory. 2011 hasn’t started well, but i’ll be damned if i’ll let that get in the way of my fun.

Oh, and that little bit at the end about Letterbox Lullabies? That’s a teaser. All I can say is that I have a bunch of hand drawn schematics that resemble a plan for world music one night only domination that is smeared in m n m grease and happiness. it’s going to be amazing.

this weekend, i am playing at the JOYnt on Montague Rd, West End with Tash Parker at 5pm for the Unconvention afterparty. if you have just clicked here for the first time and you have no idea whether you should go, then the video below is a pretty good indicator! if you do come, please say hello before or afterwards…i don’t bite!

after a whirlwind day trip to sydney, i had planned to crawl into bed and succumb to the weight of the qantas complimentary beverages ebbing through my blood stream. that was until i received this email from jaymis about rehearsal tonight:

on the road again…

the car is (re)packed and i’m on my way to Glen Innes for a gig tomorrow! it’s going to be a busy weekend as i’m back up in brisbane to play at the Lofly Hanger on Friday night supporting Mr Maps, McKisko and Fergus Brown – a last minute addition to the schedule, i know, but it’d be great if you could all make it!

‘busy’ seems to be the catchphrase at the moment which is great – touring, playing, side projects – it’s all happening somewhere in there i managed to finish a couple of books including “The Surgeon Of Crowthorne” by Simon Windchester; which was received from Beyond Q books in Canberra. in short, i really enjoyed this book. it’s a true story about the origins of the Oxford English Dictionary; and as dry as that may sound, it’s quite captivating. loved it.

there’s also been time to work on a couple of new videos – one truly brilliant video by Jaymis that will be added shortly; and the Ocean Grove/VIC video. however, i thought since i’m back on the road today it would be more apt to post the video below – a short insight-slash-laugh at myself to summarise the first 5,000km of the trip…

In July at Space Ball at Top Floor in Brisbane, Rowley (gently) exploded the brains of everyone present with a freaking wonderful set. It concluded with this performance of The Kite Song. Wow.

a fence over frosty waters

a farm is a perfect place to unwind after a long time spent rehearsing for a gig. i thoroughly recommend it. even if it does mean standing in a cold creek mending barbed wire fences, getting a nasty cold and then infecting other friendswith it

thanks again to everyone who came to the gig – we’ve now successfully managed to restore the several hundred kilos of gear back to our respective studios from the troubadour – you have no IDEA how many freakin’ stairs that place has!

anyway, whilst we are scrounging up another gig, finishing off a video and hitting the studio for some proper recording, jaymis was nice enough to output a video sampler from the gig for those who missed it. it’s “kite song”, the very very new addition to the cowper family. i hope it is liked. thank you, that is all!
