“I am making an album with Matt Redlich” – A photo essay.
This morning (4am actually) marks exactly 2 weeks since we launched the Morning Prayer video, and I am stoked to say we’ve had over 3,000 views since then – that’s 0.00005% of the total world’s population! This may not be a lot for your average run-of-the-mill Seeker Lover Keeper-esque supergroup, but in my world it’s pretty amazing…thanks everyone for taking a look and passing it on!
Now here is your gift for being so lovely - the download track for ~Rails~ from the behind the scenes slideshow video! Enjoy!!!

If you’d like to know more about how it came about then Jaymis posted about how we made the clip over at CreateDigitalMotion and so did Mr Dan Graetz of the amazing Graetz Media. Whoo!

This is a pretty quick reminder because Jaymis and I are up late and it is cold and we still have to go outside to finish packing the car…but I thought I’d remind you all that as mentioned previously we are on tour this weekend, and we are coming to Byron, Melbourne and the Peninsula…so check out the dates and come along.
**PLUS** for the very special first time ever, we’ve actually been organised enough to pull together some merchandise to sell on the road. Or rather A Merch. We think it’s pretty cool…what do you think?
It’s called the Cowper GeekStick, and we figure at $10 it’s the best thing out there. It’s basically a 4gig USB stick with the entire video and audio works of Cowper up to this point on it. They are hand numbered by me, and hand copied (well…not bit by bit) by Jay.
The idea is you buy it, you copy it, and then hopefully you pass it on to someone else. Or overwrite it with holiday snaps of you and that guy that time in Turkey (hey Jeff! How’s Lisa?).
So far we’ve only got a couple…because you can probably guess that we aren’t exactly making money on this merch. But if people like it (or are just in desperate need of a USB stick between meetings and I just happen to be out front of the office busking…) then I’ll probably do a couple more so I have enough to cover the whole tour.
SO EXCITEMENT!!!!
If you had a very mild super power involving not blinking, and a friend with a flood ravaged, basketball court sized film studio, what would you do? Well, if you were us, you’d decide to record and film an entire song in a single night.
So, on a cool night in March a group of incredibly talented people descended upon the location.
(PS, not following the link to watch this in HD is a travesty of injustice to the cinematic camera and setup used! Then when you’ve watched it you can grab the MP3 here)
The first thing you would realise if you were part of this talented band of cohorts would be that derelict abandoned studios don’t have a great deal of electricity running through them. Such people are resourceful, however, and thus prone to bribing the neighbours with a bottle of whiskey in payment for one night’s rent of a power point. (resourceful people also seldom go anywhere without 100m+ of extension cables!).
The next thing you would come to appreciate is that if you put one person, one amp and one guitar in the middle of the room, then the reverb is unbelievable.
After a while, you’d become hungry. The only thing that will solve this hunger will be lamb and haloumi goodness from Lefkas. Cider would probably help too.
You’d also figure out that there is a lot of fun to be had with camera dollys…which are essentially oversized skateboards in the right hands. At this point, caffeine will become a staple.
Then, in the wee hours of the morning, it will all become worthwhile. A bunch of good friends, standing around having a beer and laughing at how silly they were to lock them selves in a flood dust encrusted space for 1o hours.
You’ll probably wet your pants laughing a hell of a lot too.

This is the first official video, and I guess single, from the debut Cowper album out later this year. We’re all really proud of it…we hope you like it too.
What can I say…my friends are amazing.
The lovely Tash Parker, whose song “I Take The Blame” was one of my favourite tracks of last year, has fashioned herself a bit of a dual state residency, and has been nice enough to bring Cowper along for the ride. To say that Jaymis and I are excited to be taking Cowper to Melbourne for the first time is a serious understatement…check out the gigs page for times, etc and as a hint: you can guarantee that we will be staying for dinner so come and say hi and have a laugh with us!
I don’t have anything to say except hello to Sam, the nice boy who came and said hello after the gig. I hope you enjoyed the movie! thanks for the kind words and keep up the robot noises

Well, after a lengthy ’injury break’ the album is well and truly back on track, and it’s been done so in style if I may say so. Last Friday a crack team of talented people (Loveday, Graetz, Redlich, Dainer & Smith(s)) descended upon an abandoned, flood destroyed film studio with a mission: Record and film an entire song and music video from scratch in a single night. The first challenge was power…evidently a collection of antique and modern tube amplifiers don’t take too kindly to a generator, and so with payment of a bottle of Canadian whiskey, and a suspicious looking 50 metre long extension cable stretching from the next door neighbour’s warehouse, we were up and running.
The 2nd challenge? Trying to stay focused on the job at hand. I’ll let future video releases speak for themselves, but needless to say the breathtaking location meant that the first 30 minutes was taken up by everyone’s attempts to capture the immenseness of the space with Mamiyas (is that right?), Canons, Nikkons, R3Ds and the humble iPhone.
Fast forward 10 hours; an esky full of cider, beer and coke; several greek foodgasms from Lefkas; and a LOT of sweat and riverdust-come-mud, and we had the job done. In fact, it was done so well there was even time to record two other pieces. Whether these make it on to the album or not, we felt we had to share at least part of the night with you all so you can share in what has been one of the most wonderful nights of my life…made all the more amazing by the stupendous talent and generosity of those who helped out.
Matt & I are in the studio right now continuing the work on the album, but we took a break yesterday to put this together. Take a look, and we hope you enjoy it.

It’s been a busy, good weekend; so I thought I’d share some of the goodwill by putting up a download for everyone. Whilst work is continuing between myself and the amazing Matt Redlich (Hungry Kids of Hungary, Timothy Carroll) I thought that given all the dramas that have resulted in the delay of the album release, it would be a nice idea to give everyone a clue as to how it’s going. So please, feel free to download it and send it to EVERYONE!
I hope it helps to make Monday a little less painful for you all

Dear friends…since we last spoke I have become a changed man. I have played…….my first lead rock guitar.
How it has taken so long, I will NEVER know; but at least now it has happened at last. And it was AWESOME. I also, incidentally, notched up my first “away from home” game with a band, rolling into Byron for one of the best Sunday nights around: road trip; coffee; rain; sushi; swim; rock; road trip.
Rinse and repeat!
You can get a feel for it by taking a look at this.
